DAY 8: RENT A JEEP
On my first trip to Sedona I rented a Jeep for our family for a day. It was one of those things the kids won’t ever forget and trust me, thats priceless. We hit a few Jeep trails and visited Indian Ruins.
Barlow Jeep Rentals is the place to go. When you rent a Jeep, you’ll get a full safety briefing and they will go over the different trails available and help you pick the trails and activities based on your comfort level with a 4×4. They will give you maps for all the trails you want to try and point out any hazards.
We went up Schnebly Hill which is a real easy drive and offers super views from high up on the Mogollon Rim. We also went to the Hanaki Ruins and drove the Outlaw Trail which starts in the parking lot of Hanaki. Broken Arrow is another popular trail that we drove. It’s not far from the Chapel area in Sedona. Finally, we drove the Soldiers Pass trail. It actually starts in a small park in a neighborhood. It’s an easy trail to do and it’s not loaded with a lot of the other Jeep Tour companies.
A family of four can easily spend $250-300 to go on one trail with a guide and other customers. We had the Jeep to ourselves the entire day and made our own agenda. Really a good time. Since we moved here, I bought a Jeep and going off-road is a regular family activity now.
