DAY 19: HIKE COURTHOUSE BUTTE TRAIL
Courthouse Butte Trail is just outside the Village of Oak Creek in Sedona, adjacent to Bell Rock. The trail is 4.2 miles and circumnavigates both Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. It’s popular with mountain bikers and hikers. Dogs (on leashes) are a frequent companion seen on the trail. Don’t forget water and a camera.
Start in the parking area south of Bell Rock. The trail is well marked and is not a strenous hike. The trail grade changes are easy and you’ll move in and out of washes as you circle the two. Give yourself 2.5 hours for the round trip. Horses are prohibited but bicycles are allowed. Two bike rental shops are available in the Village of Oak Creek (1/4 mile from the parking area).
Directions: Take SR 179 south from Sedona. Look for the 2nd Bell Rock parking area (southern most) just before entering the Village of Oak Creek. If you miss it, circle around the roundabout and go North up 179 a hundred yards or so. You’ll need a red rock pass to park there.
